HDMI, DVI-D and D-Sub for the latest 22” from Mitsubishi

The RDT222WM-S, the latest generation of the “DiamondCrysta Wide” from Mitsubishi, a 22” LCD panel with a WSXGA+ resolution (1000:1, and 300cd/m2) will receive in addition to the usual DVI-D HDCP and D-SUB, an HDMI input. Nice but ONCE again I would rather see an HDMI input on a Full HD panel or a 24” one

33 mega pixel Super Hi-Vision as new broadcast standard for Japan.

33_megapixel_super_hi-vision.jpg

The Japanese government has announced plans to bring Super Hi-Vision (a.k.a. Ultra High Definition) to life as a broadcast standard by 2015. With its 33 mega pixel (7,680 x 4,320) resolution and 22.2 channel surround sound, challenges so far have included building a camera that can record it, and equipment to transfer the 24Gbps uncompressed stream. Fortunately, some forward thinker in Japan’s Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry — that we are strongly considering as a write in candidate for the presidential elections — is beginning a joint project with private companies to make this happen, beginning with a research investment of about $2.7 million this year alone. I feel this will be the perfect companion to play games at ULTRA High Definition, wonder if Sony plans to have the next PlayStation featuring Hector like speeds of 63 million calculations a second that would make gaming wee bit more fun.

Samsung today unveiled its new series of 24- and 25.5-inch LCD monitors

Samsung today unveiled its new series of 24- and 25.5-inch LCD monitors designed for entertainment and multimedia use. The pair of monitors support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 with full 1080p HD resolution, HDMI inputs, and built-in multimedia speakers. Built-in multimedia speakers allow users to seamlessly participate in teleconferences or listen to videos and audio presentations without the need to use or purchase separate speakers. Samsung’s 2493HM monitor is available for $600, while the 2693HM is priced at $700.

The SyncMaster 2693HM and 2493HM monitors both feature a four-way adjustable stand that provide for height, swivel, tilt, and pivot capabilities. A dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 enables the 2493HM monitor to produce true-to-life image quality, according to Samsung, and both monitors feature a 5ms GTG response time that virtually eliminates blurring or ghosting.

Like all Samsung displays, the 2493HM and the 2693HM monitors are backed by a three-year limited warranty on labor and parts, including the backlight, as well as toll-free technical support for the life of the display. The 25.5-inch SynchMaster 2693HM and the 24-inch SyncMaster 2493HM monitors will be on display at Macworld Conference & Expo in the Samsung booth (no. S-1237) in the South Hall of the Moscone Center until January 18th.
