 sharpan-acd2-lg.jpg

Sharp on Wednesday took the unusual direction of building a compact home theater in its AQUOS Audio lineup that doubles as a complete stand. The Aquos Audio AN-ACD2 produces 150W (2×25 + 100 from the subwoofer) and, with its generous width of 1141mm, can welcome your TV and a BluRay disc player in case you want to “complete the look”. Of course, HDMI is part of the deal.

Sleek design and price of 95,000 yen (590€), you know what you’ve got to do! That is waiting for the Euro/US release!

Westinghouse Quad Not just FULL but Overflowing HD

Check the new 56 inches from Westinghouse may wet your appetite. Instead of building the biggest monitor on the market, they have opted for higher definition by presenting the Westinghouse Quad, Quad Full HD (3840 x 2160) to be precise. This 56-inch display packs in a total of 8.3 million pixels. It will set you back for $50,000, you might opt for the puny 47-inch model that will slug you a lazy $10,000. The 47- incher is not so impressive in the stats department it is a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) with a less impressive 3.7 million pixels.

NEC preps ultra-wide 42-inch monitor

NEC has unveiled a new display it says will help both for widescreen entertainment as well as for video editors and others who need a large amount of continuous screen space. Officially referred to as the CRVD-42DWX+, the screen switches from LCD to the normally TV-oriented DLP (Digital Light Projection) to allow an extra-long, curved image without bezels; two displays combine to create a single 2880×900 area. Using the technology also has the side-benefit of very intense color accuracy and performance, NEC says: where LCDs often miss colors or exhibit lag, the 42DWX+ displays as much as 170 percent of the NTSC color range with a 12-bit range (versus 8-bit for most LCDs) and draws pixels in just 0.02 milliseconds. The display also generates a much higher than usual 10,000:1 contrast ratio. While much thicker than two LCDs, the DLP screen is relatively thin versus CRTs and weighs about 25 pounds, considerably less than dedicated DLP TVs and most similarly-sized flat-panels. NEC has formally announced the screen as a product but says it remains too early to provide a release date, price, or most other details; the use of two distinct displays is believed to require two separate DVI video connectors.

NEC adds high-color 30-inch LCD display

NEC today unveiled one of its largest conventional displays yet in the form of the LCD3090WQXi. The 30-inch display is built for video editors or nearly any user concerned with faithful above all else. Through new 12-bit color processing and a new backlight, the screen accurately paints 102 percent of the NTSC color gamut and nearly 98 percent of the Adobe RGB space, by NEC’s estimates.

It also actively corrects color uniformity problems and other issues. Dual DVI video inputs provide the LCD with either a pure digital signal, with HDCP encryption for Blu-ray and other protected HD video formats, or else a dual-mode analog and digital output for content that can go without the extra copy protection measures. NEC notes that the display includes a connection that can accept most color calibration hardware without plugging into a computer itself, and expects the 3090WQXi to ship in February at a price of $2,200.Here is a pictures of LCD2690WUXi

New Samsung monitor features an extra side screen

Monitors come in a variety of shapes and sizes, though these days they tend to be in 16:9 ratio with a size of 17, 19 or 22-inches. If you want a little extra real estate to work on, you’ll just buy another matching monitor and set them side-by-side. However, if you want a large monitor and need only a little extra room for various toolbars, you might like this new unique monitor from Samsung.

You’ll notice that the Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX appears to have a small growth attached to it. That growth is actually a small 7-inch display mounted on the side. My first impression when looking at this is that it’s a crazy idea, and I’d never use it. Then I remembered how annoying it is when I’m working in Photoshop and want to see the image full-screen. Since I run two monitors anyway, it’s not a big deal to just move them onto the other screen. For someone that just works in a program like Photoshop all day, this would be a great setup.

Like all cool gadgets, this one is going to cost you a good little chunk of money. While you could get a
pair of monitors for $550, this one might be something to consider
