Samsung See’N’Search to bring simpler Internet to TVs

Samsung today said it had developed a new technology that could effectively wipe out the need for a keyboard to provide real Internet access for TVs. Nicknamed See’N'Search, the technique not only finds metadata from the closed captioning found in many TV shows but also uses its own algorithm to study the picture itself for text and other information that reveals the content. It then automatically scours the Internet for videos and websites that relate to that content; users can simply use a remote to pick items from a list that appears automatically instead of typing out information.

The company also explains that the information is not isolated to the TV. Viewers who want to explore the information in more detail can broadcast the information over the local network to a computer, handheld, or phone as long as the device has both a connection and a web browser.

Samsung today unveiled its new series of 24- and 25.5-inch LCD monitors

Samsung today unveiled its new series of 24- and 25.5-inch LCD monitors designed for entertainment and multimedia use. The pair of monitors support resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 with full 1080p HD resolution, HDMI inputs, and built-in multimedia speakers. Built-in multimedia speakers allow users to seamlessly participate in teleconferences or listen to videos and audio presentations without the need to use or purchase separate speakers. Samsung’s 2493HM monitor is available for $600, while the 2693HM is priced at $700.

The SyncMaster 2693HM and 2493HM monitors both feature a four-way adjustable stand that provide for height, swivel, tilt, and pivot capabilities. A dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 enables the 2493HM monitor to produce true-to-life image quality, according to Samsung, and both monitors feature a 5ms GTG response time that virtually eliminates blurring or ghosting.

Like all Samsung displays, the 2493HM and the 2693HM monitors are backed by a three-year limited warranty on labor and parts, including the backlight, as well as toll-free technical support for the life of the display. The 25.5-inch SynchMaster 2693HM and the 24-inch SyncMaster 2493HM monitors will be on display at Macworld Conference & Expo in the Samsung booth (no. S-1237) in the South Hall of the Moscone Center until January 18th.

New Samsung monitor features an extra side screen

Monitors come in a variety of shapes and sizes, though these days they tend to be in 16:9 ratio with a size of 17, 19 or 22-inches. If you want a little extra real estate to work on, you’ll just buy another matching monitor and set them side-by-side. However, if you want a large monitor and need only a little extra room for various toolbars, you might like this new unique monitor from Samsung.

You’ll notice that the Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX appears to have a small growth attached to it. That growth is actually a small 7-inch display mounted on the side. My first impression when looking at this is that it’s a crazy idea, and I’d never use it. Then I remembered how annoying it is when I’m working in Photoshop and want to see the image full-screen. Since I run two monitors anyway, it’s not a big deal to just move them onto the other screen. For someone that just works in a program like Photoshop all day, this would be a great setup.

Like all cool gadgets, this one is going to cost you a good little chunk of money. While you could get a
pair of monitors for $550, this one might be something to consider

Samsung LNT4069 LCD TV

With the new Samsung LNT4069 in your room, you’ll be able to experience your favorite moves just like you did in the theater. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second without repeating the same image to make more frames. The LNT4069 intelligently calculates the middle image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between, making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.

In addition, Samsung’s innovative DNIe Digital Natural Image Engine delivers a crisp, lifelike picture that is closer to film. You’re getting the real big-screen at home, bigger and clearer.

You and your home theater’s unwavering passion for high-definition have a new ally in unsurpassed audio and video connectability. Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity and connectability, Samsung LNT4069 features 3 HDMI connections - two rear and one side.

Samsung LNT4069 LCD TV

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI.

The LNT4069 comes equipped with the useful HDMI-CEC feature that empowers you control all your devices with CEC compatibility with just one remote control.

Samsung FP-T5094 Plasme Television

Now you can get full 1080p HD without the mess of wires. The FPT5094 includes a wireless home A/V center that enables wireless communication between the FPT5094 and components, like your DVD player, cable/satellite box, etc., connected to the wireless center.
This television’s connections - with three HDMI jacks, two component video inputs - were moved from the back of the TV to the back of the separate wireless base station. As a result, the only wire coming from the panel is the power cord. This could potentially save hundreds of dollars in installation fees if you want to wall-mount your FPT5094 because not having to run interconnects through the wall makes wall installation much simpler.

Samsung FP-T5094

Conventional Plasma HDTVs use 10-bit color processing that produces up to 1.07 billion colors. But Samsung has taken HDTV Plasma to the next level with sets that have 18-bit color processing. These technologically advanced color processing methods can produce astonishing natural, true-to-life colors. It also aids in video signal processing of analog sources to ensure a more natural and vivid picture.

When it comes to reliability, you can count on the Samsung FPT5094 Plasma HDTV. That’s because it is held up to the highest of standards when it comes to quality and longevity. Samsung Plasma HDTVs last 60,000 hours to half-brightness.
A 15-watt per channel built-in audio amplifier powers the FPT5094’s integrated stereo speakers. This TV also features SRS TruSurround XT. TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through the two-speaker internal playback system.
